i think homework should be banned because it causes stress and takes away valuable time and graph study shows that you learn more at the beggining of the year but near the end you do not learn as much so homework does not really help in school so it should be banned Side: banned

It has been proven that with homework, students work at their own pace and not under a rigid structure of classes and deliverables found at many of the after school learning centers. http://www.kidshomework.us/ Side: Not banned

We need to have outside time because of the nature of the land. I learned how to track and hunt animals. If I get lost in the middle of the woods I will be fine. Also if you are constantly sitting you will get sors on your legs and also might become this a couch potato. Side: banned

Research indicates that homework in general is extremely beneficial for students. The supporting research is somewhat dichotomous indicating (1) objective benefits ascertained from standardized test scores, and (2) subjective benefits ascertained from parents, teachers, and the students themselves. "Homework's effect on achievement can be described most accurately as above average," claims Harris Cooper in "Homework Research and Policy: A Review of Literature." (March 2000) Cooper indicates that, of twenty studies completed since 1962, fourteen are pro-homework. Of fifty studies correlating the time on homework with student achievement, Cooper states that forty-three of the studies showed students who did homework had better achievement. A typical homework-completing high school student, according to Cooper's research, will outperform students who do not do homework by 69% on standardized tests. Side: Not banned

A student says: I believe that homework is a chance for students to relearn all they missed or what students do not understand in class. It also helps them earn responsibility to finish their homework. Homework is there to help kids and to teach them, not to bore them or to take their fun time away. check out this link:http:// Side: Not banned

In the article "How Important Is Homework," a summary of the U.S. Department of Education's stance on the issue provided by Kid Source Online nicely summarizes the subjective benefits of homework: It serves as an intellectual discipline, establishes study habits, eases time constraints on the amount of curricular material that can be covered in class, and supplements and reinforces work done in school. In addition, it fosters student initiative, independence, and responsibility, and brings home and school closer together. Side: Not banned
